Family Law

Divorce
The term divorce means the dissolution of marriage by a court of competent jurisdiction. Divorce laws vary from state to state. Maryland recognizes two types of divorce – absolute divorce and limited divorce. An absolute divorce dissolves the marriage permanently, permits the parties to remarry, and terminates marital property claims. In contrast, limited divorces do not permit remarriage and do not terminate marital property claims.
Divorce can be an emotionally stressful process, and the staff of the Law Office of Kent L. Greenberg are experienced and sensitive in handling that emotional turbulence. We understand the anguish and resentment that clients undergo, and we work with zeal to reach a satisfactory legal solution to our clients’ divorce issues. Having resolved many divorce cases successfully, we have developed creative strategies, tactics, and solutions to help ease the divorce process.
We have extensive experience dealing with Maryland family and divorce laws. When possible, we prefer to resolve divorce matters through arbitration, mediation, or negotiation, also known as alternative dispute resolution or ADR. As a former Domestic Mediator for Baltimore City, Maryland, Mr. Greenberg has extensive experience with ADR proceedings. Maryland absolute divorce proceedings often require presentation and corroboration of testimony, proving of elements, and periods of separation. Those can consume much time compared to ADR, which can be a cost effective means of resolving family law issues. We will guide you through the ADR process and advise you of your options at each step. We listen to your suggestions and needs and will work hard to resolve your family issues to your satisfaction. If ADR fails, we can and will litigate aggressively to protect your rights. Over the years, the Law Office of Kent L. Greenberg has been successful in handling family law matters through ADR as well as by litigation. We know when to negotiate, and when to fight.
Time can be critical in divorce and family law matters. If you are contemplating divorce or have other family law issues, contact the experienced family law team at the Law Office of Kent L. Greenberg today.
